Senior Women's Cricket

We are really excited to have brought Women’s Cricket back to YPCC. We currently field two senior women’s teams in the NWMCA T20 Competition.

Bringing back women’s teams in 2019, almost 100 years after Youlden Kensington first fielded one, was a long held goal for YPCC. The club also fielded a women’s team in the 1930s and even called state and Australian representative, Lesley Rhodes, a member.

Our focus now is on growing women’s participation in cricket by offering a friendly, safe and inclusive environment. We warmly welcome women of all ages and abilities / experience levels from absolute beginner to returning and experienced players.

Matches and training

Senior women’s matches are at 12pm on Sunday and last about 2.5 hours.

The women’s teams train at 6pm on Tuesdays and 5:30pm on Thursdays at Ryder Oval & Nets.

Home matches are played on a turf wicket on the Ransford Oval.

Preseason training commences on 13th August for the 2023-24 season. Details of the 2023 preseason schedule can be found here

Try Out the Vibes

Jump into short fun activities suitable for everyone. Just turn up and see what you think and feel about the experience. Ask questions. Try the equipment. Soak up the vibe. Held on Saturdays for less than an hour from September.

Girls Only Or Mixed Teams

We have girls only teams, or girls can also play in mixed girl/boy teams. All gender identities welcome and we’ll find the right team for you to play in. Girls train together once a week and play matches against other clubs. Our focus is on participation, encouragement and having fun. We cook up a veggie and halal BBQ every evening after training.

Senior Women

When girls feel ready to try playing with senior women’s teams we support and encourage them. Our senior women’s teams are inclusive and friendly. They’re full of players of all ages and backgrounds, skills and abilities. We provide specialist coaching to help girls be their best. We have an excellent relationship with Carlton Women’s Premier Cricket Club for those girls with skills and ambition to play for Victoria or Australia.

YPCC women play in a navy club shirt and navy shorts/pants (good news, no whites required).

How to join in

Just come along and have a try! Junior girl players are also welcome to join us for training and matches. After training we join with the rest of the senior club to hear match reports, team selection and enjoy Geoff’s famous schnitzel burger (vegetarian and vegan options are available too). Angelina, 26, Prepare to Be Surprised!

When I first came down to have a go at cricket I had really low expectations. I’m surprised how much I like it. It’s so stress free. People are so encouraging.

I love how after games we sit around on the oval and talk about family, friends, the game – everything really. Being part of a team is an opportunity to make friends with people from all ages and walks of life. I meet people I just wouldn’t come across in my normal social life.

Jane, 51, It’s So Sweet

I’m happiest when mothers and daughters start playing in the same team. It’s not something I ever had the chance to experience when I was growing up. When mothers and daughters play together they go through the high and lows as equals. As team-mates. It’s so special. I love it when one of the young girls gets a wicket and I can see this sense of triumph and reward on her face. To any woman wanting to play cricket I’d say: “We won’t take you beyond where you want to be. You’ll be safe as you learn. It’s fun.” I love the feel and sound of the ball off the bat. It’s so sweet.
